Wicks

Why cheaper isnt always better

In Australia it IS  illegal to sell candles containing more than 0.06% of LEAD. At Bliss we think ANY amount of lead is too much. However some cheaper candles on the market continue to use wicks which contain Lead. The lead helps the wick remain upright whilst burning and is usually identifiable by a circular core running through the wick.coton-wicks.jpg

When burned in an enclosed area for a long time lead wicks can release fumes into the atmosphere. Emissions from candles containing lead are considered hazardous to the health, particularly for unborn babies, small children and pregnant women who can experience:

  • impaired growth
  • hearing loss
  • behaviour problems
  • respiratory problems
  • impaired short term memory
  • reproductive disorders
  • memory loss
  • nerve disorders

OF COURSE ALL BLISS CANDLES ARE 100% LEAD FREE
